The EFI "self-tuning" myth

Many EFI systems are marketing as "self-learning" or "self-tuning". While this is technically true, it's also partially true. My experience is primarily based on Holley EFI, which is the market leader in electronic fuel injection.

The "self-tuning" capability they are referring to is the ability to adjust the air/fuel ratio (AFR) while driving and make changes to the base calibration or "map". What they DON'T adjust are things like startup, acceleration, and timing. Most systems have baseline settings or "tunes" that you can load or are selected from a startup wizard. However, if you want these things tuned, you will have to learn to do it yourself or in the case of Holley EFI, reach out to us at Truth Dyno and Performance in Medina, MN and we can take care of it for you!
