Holley sniper troubles? check these simple things

Do you have a Holley Sniper, the one with the built-in fuel regulator? Was it running great at first and now after a while it’s not running right? If so, you could have a fuel delivery issue. All EFI systems, whether its factory ECM or Holley EFI need steady fuel pressure at the exact pressure that the system was configured for. Incorrect or erratic fuel pressure with cause fuel delivery issues causing lean or rich conditions. Here are few things to check:

A fuel pressure gauge makes this easier and verifies corrective actions. Ideally, you can verify that pressure is consistent and exactly what the system is configured for. If you don’t have one, you can still do the following and see if it helps.

If fuel pressure is too low…. check inline fuel filters. Often on an older vehicle there’s debris in the tank that could have plugged the filters. Pull them off and check for restrictions.

Also, check the built in fuel pressure regulator. Where the fuel return line attaches to the Sniper, there is a fuel regulator behind a cover with 4 screws. Remove the screws and you will see a round disc with a diaphragm. Carefully pry that out without damaging it or puncturing the diaphragm. It’s pressed in with a couple of o-rings. On the end with the o-rings, there should be a small screen. If it’s not there, check inside the hole that the regulator came out of. The screen can get plugged, fuel can pass through the regulator, and the pressure will be too high. Also, press down inside the small end of the fuel pressure regulator with a screwdriver or something, you should feel the plunger move with some resistance. Sometimes it can get stuck. Verify the rubber diapharagm is intact. It should be able to hold pressure.

If you found any of these things off, the fuel learn table could be populated with bad values. You can either clear the fuel learn table manually or wait for it to relearn and repair itself.

Hopefully these tips will help get your Holley Sniper back on track!
